Osakana Kitchen Confidential

January 05, 2018 by Daniella Henry

Recently, we were lucky enough to take a sushi-making class at Osakana in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Osakana is a storefront spot, with awesome seafood at surprisingly palatable prices. Their Donburi is highly coveted and we look forward to checking out their sister spot Okonomi Yuji Ramen soon.

THE GOOD:

  • It’s BYOB and you get some pretty cool aprons.

  • Emma, who greeted us at the front, and coordinated the class logistics over email was genuine and accommodating.

  • The Osakana instructor was an incredible teacher, he’s found the perfect balance between preventing you from cutting yourself and not making you feel like a dumbass.

THE BAD

  • Bad as in badass. In order to get the perfect crisp on some of the fish, Osakana lets you torch things sometimes.

THE UGLY

  • We wanted to be those cool sushi-eaters that don’t need sauces to muddy up the true essence of the fish. That was stupid. They have awesome infused sauces. Trust us, ASK.

Check out all their classes, which range from pickling to butchering, here or email osakanabk@gmail.com for more info. They won’t disappoint.
